Some 20 years after the fall of communism in Romania, a significant percent of the young workforce still does not pursue entrepreneurship. Encouraging them to do so is a continuing priority for many local development programs and regional NGOs.
The Association for Promoting Business in Romania (APPAR), an NGO based in Oradea, was founded in 2005 to empower bilateral collaborations and investments in the far west region of Romania. Its founders and members are young and dynamic people who are very concerned with creating solutions for entrepreneurship in this part of the country.
For example, APPAR offers solutions and consultancy for free for medium-sized enterprises in the region. They organize free conferences, seminars, and business meetings and publish informative books and brochures about economics. They have also implemented free project management and entrepreneurship classes for beginners.
”Technology is our main way of communication, fundamental in organizing our events, trainings, and seminars,” says Gonczi Jozsef, the executive director of APPAR. ”Organizing an event is a complex process, where almost every element is technology-based: design, print, communication.”
The organization received Bitdefender software donated though TechSoup Romania. This donation enabled them to buy other necessary equipment for their office, which would have been unaffordable otherwise.
”We are using technology in
our very new project: a co-working office. With the money saved on software, we were
able to buy a laptop for a co-worker who did not have one, to help him in this
work,” says Jozsef.
